The aim of the course is to equip you with the basic knowledge on business administration and will cover the following chapters:


  • Principles of personal responsibilities and working in a business environment
  • Principles of providing administrative services
  • Principles of managing information and producing documents
  • Principles of supporting change in a business environment
  • Principles of working in the public sector


The assessments will include both a knowledge and skills component and you will be required to obtain 100-hours of workplace experience as well.


The duration of the course is 4 to 6-months

This skill programme will allow the learner to start earning a salary after 3-months, it is however not a full qualification but just provide the necessary skills to work as a Fitness Instructor


The following unit standards will be covered during the course:

  • Apply knowledge of anatomy and physiology to exercise training
  • Supervise the use of fitness facilities and equipment
  • Recommend an exercise programme or activity
  • Instruct exercise to individuals and groups


Learning expected to be in place:

Literacy and numeracy skills on NQF level 3.


Course Overview

  • 84- hours of theoretical learning
  • 196-hour of practical learning at approved workplace

This skills programme's aim is to equip individuals with the skills to deliver an exercise class to music to the apparently healthy individual or group.  This is a skills programme and not a full qualification and will equip the student with the skills to start a career as a group exercise instructor.


The following unit standards will be covered in this programme:

  • Apply anatomical and biomechanical principles to physical activity
  • Lead and instruct exercise programmes for individuals and groups to music

The programme also covers an enterprise standard to equip you with knowledge on contract and employment


Learning to be in place:

Literacy and numeracy skills on NQF level 3.


Course Overview

  • 15 credits
  • Level 4
  • A total of 45-hours of theory
  • A total of 105-hours of practical experience at an approved workplace


The programme's aim is to equip fitness professionals with the knowledge, skills and attributed to design and implement physical activity programmes in a group and one on one basis or apparently healthy individuals plus screen, assess and monitor fitness programmes without direct supervision.


This is a skills programme and not a full qualification and will equip you with the skills to operate as a personal trainer to the apparently healthy population


The programme will cover the following unit standards:

  • Operate professionally in a sport, recreation or fitness environment

  • Maintain fitness environment and equipment

  • Provide for safety and risk management in sport and fitness

  • Supervise the use of a fitness facility and equipment

  • Apply anatomical and biomechanical principles to physical activity

  • Apply principles of sport and exercised physiology

  • Conduct a screening procedure

  • Test and evaluate health related fitness components

  • Design an exercise programme

  • Instruct exercise to individuals and groups

  • Promote awareness of nutritional principles

  • Motivate and encourage participation in physical activity

  • Apply entrepreneurship to the administration of a sport or fitness business

  • NQF level 4 or equivalent thereof

  • A total of 258-hours of theory
  • A total of 608-hours of practical experience at an approved workplace

The aim of this programme is to equip individuals with knowledge, skills and attributes to successfully manage all administrative aspects of a sport, recreation or fitness organisation.  This is a skills programme and not full qulaification, it will provide you with the skills to manage the administrative side of a fitness, recreation or sport organisation.


The following unit standards will be covered:

  • Operate professionally in a sport, recreation or fitness environment

  • Apply values and ethics to the sport organization

  • Operate a personal computer system

  • Apply administrative skills and knowledge in a sport organisation

  • Develop administrative procedure in a selected organisation

  • Manage expenditure against a budget

  • Manage finance in a small business
